If you have used a bullet journal before, you are probably already familiar with setting goals and creating task lists. However, if this is your first time using one, here is quick refresher:
To achieve your goals, you should have a list of tasks to be completed.
Here is a simple way of thinking about and planning your goals. For each goal use the SMART method. Your goals should be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time managed.
Recording your year-end goals is another one of the many benefits of using a bullet journal.
The Importance of Setting Goals
Why should you set goals?
It is a proven fact that those who write down their goals come closer to achieving them. A larger percentage of people accomplish the goals they have set for themselves.
If you have ever had dreams or aspirations, you might find that they seem more like far-fetched dreams instead of realistic expectations.
Setting goals is important because it gives you something to work toward to achieve the dreams you may have.
When you set goals for yourself, you need to have a list of smaller tasks to help reach them. This is where your bullet journal comes in handy. It can help you reach all the goals you have wanted to achieve.
Why Use a Bullet Journal?
Why use a bullet journal you ask?
Why not?
Many people use planners, or other types of journals to record and set their goals. A bullet journal can be just as useful, if not more useful than other journals. I have already talked about the differences between a regular journal and a bullet journal.
The difference between using a bullet journal and a regular journal comes down to how you set up the journal. In a regular journal, there may not be a specific place to write down your goals or you may jot them down occasionally while writing and soon you have lost track of them.
Hmm, what page was that list of goals on?
With a bullet journal you can have a specific section or page that you record your goals and check off your smaller task list. Not to mention with a bullet journal you have an index that helps you keep up where things are in your journal.
Need to find that list of goals quickly, go to your index!
How to Track Goals in the Bullet Journal
Do a goal setting brain dump. Choose just 2-3 goals you would like to accomplish, then make sure you have a detailed task list for each of those goals.
You can set up a section in your journal specifically for your goals or use your weekly or daily pages for your lists. But make sure to revisit them often.
It is not enough to just write them down. You will need to keep those goals along with your task lists in the forefront of your mind.
These goals can be for anything in your life, including home, personal, and professional goals.
For example, if you are finishing a home remodel, you might include a list of supplies, how much it will cost, a schedule for getting the repairs done, number of contractors, and other details.
As you accomplish those smaller tasks, check them off. Use your signifers – like a smiley face or check-mark or something that gets you excited about seeing something completed.
The end of the year is a good time to set goals since you are in the fourth quarter.
You can use your bullet journal to create some year-end goals for those things you wanted to complete before the end of the year. There is still time to work on those things you want to get done.
Happy Journaling!
